Attenuators are installed between a connector and an adapter to provide superior optical performance. The device induces a calibrated fixed loss between two connectors, which “attenuates” the optical signal. Attenuation is needed when a signal has too much power and exceeds the operating range of the equipment. Without attenuation, the signal can digress — resulting in system failures and errors.
In-line attenuators are engineered and manufactured with continuous light absorbing, metal-ion doped fiber. Metal-ion fiber optic attenuators offer greater environmental stability and better back reflection and noise performance than other attenuators based on spliced fiber, air gap or offset-fiber designs.
Variable attenuators produce precision levels of signal distribution with the added flexibility of adjustment, which provides easy integration into your existing equipment or system. By using simple controls, the attenuation can be easily modified to any level required by your specific project. Applications include DWDM, aerospace industries, telecom industries, security connections and testing.
